the three windows of the demo
After double clicking InstallIndexer.jar

The Indexer demo exhibits the two usual windows and the context help window, as sketched to the right. You can edit and view the index for the Book of Genesis, but cannot save it to disk because the demo uses JNLP. Observe that you are making the index from scratch. A few index terms are suggested, but none with subtopics. These terms were generated by a simple scan of the text for common phrases. As you work on the index, you need to add terms and delete the inappropriate terms suggested by the scan.

Running the demo with JNLP means you are protected against malware; JNLP programs run in a special cocoon environment separate from your disc system. It means the program starts after just one click on the button below. The downside is that the demo version cannot be actually used to edit your own index, despite its being exactly the same code as the full application. Another downside is that start-up is a bit lengthy.

Indexer is just a click away:

After you click the button, Java will display its icon and down load the Indexer.jnlp file. Java them spends a good deal of time loading its runtime package from your disk into memory. Finally it downloads Indexer.jar and begins execution.

The whole process takes about two minutes if you have a high-speed download. It is faster to download Indexer and use it from your own system. The same demo can be run With the Demo Mode option on Indexer's Help menu.
