Heritage Park Barrie Ontario
In order to see the Falls themselves on our second day,
we stayed at The River Breeze
in Niagara-on-the-lake, Ontario. This a fantastic
bed-and-breakfast on the bluff overlooking the Niagara River. We swam
in their pool and then went for dinner at the Irish Harp Pub and attended
The
Little Foxes at the Shaw Festival. The next day was cloudy, so
there were no good pictures of the Falls.
We exchanged our time-share to stay at Carriage Hills
Resort
near Lake Simcoe in Ontario. They are competent, but lack a clubhouse.
(As usual RCI booked us into a a single room, pocketing for themselves
the value of the full apartment we are entitled to on our timeshare
agreement. Someone is making a bundle at our expense.)
While at Carriage Hills, S went for a boat ride to the Thirty Thousand
Islands; or at least a small fraction of them. Later she went to Ste.
Marie Among the Hurons. This site was established as a major French
Jesuit center in the seventeenth century, but was abandoned after ten
years to avoid hostile tribes. On Tuesday we drove in to Barrie to see Midsummer
Night's Dream at the open-air Theatre by the Bay. We were willing
to endure the raindrops, but the director called the show because the
actors could have been hurt by slipping on the grass. And well they
could have, as we saw when we returned on Friday to cash in our rain
checks.
